Each specialty defines benchmark annual opportunity amounts per full-time-equivalent physician across four core levers—Capture demand, Recapture demand, Protect reimbursements, and Recover revenue—which sum to an annual per-physician total ranging from $107K (Gastroenterology) to $210K (Dermatology). When a practice enters its physician count N, the overall annual revenue opportunity is calculated as: Total per physician × N, with each individual lever scaling proportionally by N to show practice-wide totals alongside its percentage share of the whole.
The four levers are capture demand (converting missed calls to appointments), recapture demand (re-engaging existing patients), protect reimbursements (preventing avoidable denials), and recover revenue (collecting the patient responsibility). The results show each lever’s dollar amount and its share of your total. At the all-specialty average, capture demand is the largest at $44.8K per physician, followed by recapture demand at $37.4K, protect reimbursements at $28.5K, and recover revenue at $14.1K.
Estimates differ because revenue per physician differs by specialty. Dermatology is highest at $210K per physician, and gastroenterology is lowest at $107K. The calculator applies the same four lever rates to every specialty, so the differences come from MGMA revenue per physician, not from different call, denial, or collection assumptions.
Average net revenue per visit ranges from $257 in ophthalmology to $472 in OB/GYN. By specialty, that’s $392 for dermatology, $257 for ophthalmology, $400 for primary care, $472 for OB/GYN, $310 for orthopedics, and $347 for gastroenterology (Source: 2026 MGMA DataDive Financials and Operations).
Revenue per physician comes from 2026 MGMA DataDive Financials and Operations. The lever rates combine Prosper’s CallIQ phone study of about 2,000 practices across 29 states, Prosper internal data, federal health data (CMS, AHRQ, CDC), and stated assumptions.
Use the lever breakdown to see which lever is worth the most for your specialty, then compare it with your own data: your call answer rate, first-submission denial rate, follow-up return rate, and the share of patient balances you collect. The Prosper team can walk through how to pull each lever at your practice.
